Ready or not—we are officially underway with the 2019 season! This will be my third year as Executive Director of the WVCA, and I am continuously impressed by the efforts of our board, and excited at the momentum this association continues to gain year after year.
With the new season comes a new WVCA membership registration. This year will mirror last year’s procedure, with only a minor change in the fee structure.
The link to this year’s membership can be found at the bottom of this article. Otherwise, it can be found on the home page, or under the “Resources > Forms” section of the site.
First and foremost, the registrant must have a SportsEngine account. This can be the same account used for WisSports.net or the (older) Badger Region websites, if you are a member of any other coaches association (either of the WBCAs, WFCA, WFSCA, WSCA, WISTCA, etc.), and even some adult and youth leagues have moved to a SportsEngine-hosted site. If you do not have a login, just follow the simple prompts to create one—once that user profile is created, you will automatically return to the WVCA membership registration page.
For 2019-20, we are offering three tiers to register you and/or your program: a single coach ($50), a dual-coach ($95), or a program of 3-6 coaches ($140). For each member registered through your program, we will need their name, email address, and their position/title. We encourage schools that choose the program option to add boys coaches (where applicable) as well as athletic directors to their list. Think of it this way—any coach after three is essentially free!
Each person named in any membership option (aside from the registrant him/herself) will receive an automated email to “claim” their membership. This claiming process is for those assistants, etc., who would like their own access to registrations on the site. While completely optional, this would be ideal for programs who have co-coaching or soon-to-be-retiring coaches in the program, as those assistants would retain their team access after the season ends.
Also mirroring years past, every person from your registration will be able to “opt-in” to an AVCA membership. As the WVCA is an affiliate member, our membership receives a discounted rate of $70 per coach ($85 for non-affiliate high school coaches) for those who would like to seek dual-membership. Keep in mind the AVCA Annual Convention will coincide with the NCAA Division I women’s championship weekend, taking place this December in Pittsburgh. One must be an AVCA member to attend this event, and I would highly suggest taking advantage of the reduced rate should you choose to attend the final four and/or AVCA Convention.
If you have any questions about how this process works, please reach out to WVCA Chair of Membership & Registration, Corey Davis. He can be reached at membership.wvca@gmail.com .
After one full year of building our new website (www.wisvca.org), we hope to continue adding to it history, content, and coaching resources to make it into your one-stop shop for all things high school volleyball. With an additional focus on social media interaction, we want to continue to help build relationships among our coaching peers. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with ideas!
I look forward to another year with this organization and hope you just as excited as we are for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates via email and/or online, and as always, don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
Jay Messar
WVCA Executive Director
