Division 1

Brookfield Central made an early statement by taking home the prestigious St. Thomas More/Homestead Joust championship last weekend, and earned top-ranked honors in the Week 1 WVCA Coaches Poll. Arrowhead, whose lone loss on the weekend came to the Lancers in a thrilling three-set final, showed it intends to be a regular to the rankings again this season at No. 2. An impressive Joust showing by Appleton North joined the Lightning with familiar Milwaukee-area faces Burlington and Oconomowoc in rounding out the Week 1 poll in Nos. 3 through 5, respectively.

Division 2

New division, no problem for Lake Country Lutheran, which moved from D3 to D2 this year. The Lightning, who earned the No. 1 spot in Division 2 took on some giants in last weekend’s Joust, including posting an upset of Burlington. In a logjam near the top of the voting, Wisconsin Lutheran earned the No. 2 spot with a 5th place standing at the Crusader Challenge. With a strong showing at the Cardinal Invite in Sun Prairie, Edgewood came in at No. 3, followed by Warhawk Open semifinalist Lakeside Lutheran and unbeaten Fox Valley Lutheran in the top five.

Division 3

Waterloo’s runner-up finish at the Warhawk Open in Whitewater earned it the No. 1 spot in Division 3—the Pirates’ only loss was to D1 Honorable Mention Union Grove in the championship. Howards Grove, which enters Week 1 at No. 2, was the talk of the Crusader Challenge, nearly pulling off a championship of its own before falling to D1 HM Kettle Moraine in the final. Aquinas builds on last year’s success at No. 3 once again, while upstart Dominican and southwestern regional power Wisconsin Heights round out the top five.

Division 4

No. 1 Catholic Central put on a dominating performance at last year’s State Tournament, and continued that momentum by battling through some tough pool matchups to finish 14th at the Warhawk Open. Columbus Catholic finished seventh at the 40-team Menomonie Sprawl this past weekend to take home No. 2 laurels. Diocesan rivals McDonell Central and Newman Catholic also impressed at the Sprawl over the weekend and file in at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Royall, who surged to a seventh place finish at the Friendship Tournament in Wisconsin Dells, rounds out the top five at No. 5.
