Arrowhead, Lakeside, Waterloo, CC top Week 3

Division 1

In a heavyweight battle at the Lancer Invite this past weekend, Arrowhead exacted revenge on host Brookfield Central to take over the top spot in the Week 3 Coaches Poll. The loss was Central’s of the season, and with an almost identical resume to Arrowhead, it appears the Warhawk-Lancer rivalry might be an ongoing saga in 2019. Burlington and Oconomowoc filed in at No. 3 and No. 4 this week, while a very strong Watertown squad held steady at No. 5 in Week 3.

Division 2

Three weeks of the season has brought three different teams atop D2, as Lakeside Lutheran assumed its first week at No. 1 in 2019. The Warriors leaped over the fellow Lutherans of Lake Country, as the Lightning held onto the No. 2 spot for the second straight week. Edgewood, last week’s No. 1, dropped to No. 3 after falling in the tournament title match to host Mount Horeb on Saturday. Platteville has the most wins of any Division 2 team so far this season, and at 20-1 rose to No. 4. Lake Mills’ near-upset of crosstown rival Lakeside last week lifted the L-Cats to No. 5.

Division 3

Waterloo’s “size doesn’t matter” mentality when it comes to tournament scheduling is unrivaled among D3 field, and it’s gutsy performance at the Lancer Invite last weekend that included wins over Mukwonago and West Bend West pushed the Pirates back into the No. 1 spot. Howards Grove, which fell to No. 2, only went 7-0 on the week itself to miprove to 19-2 on the year. Grantsburg leapfrogged sectional foe Aquinas into the No. 3 spot while the Blugolds joined top-five newcomer Stratford—which moved up two spots—at the top in Week 3.

Division 4

The quartet of D4 dominant Catholic schools became a trio in Week 3, as Catholic Central, Columbus Catholic, and McDonell Central all held onto their top three spots—in order—for the third straight week. Royall maintained its strong start to the 2019 season with a pair of wins last week, improving to its highest ranking at No. 4. Prentice, a team already with 19 wins on the early season, cracks the top five at No. 5 for the first time in Week 3.
