STATEWIDE -- Eight hard-fought WIAA Sectional double-headers produced four champions across two divisions Tuesday evening, as the WIAA Girls Volleyball Alt-Fall State Tournament field is set.
Sun Prairie swept Eau Claire Memorial before scrapping out a five-set thriller against neighboring DeForest Tuesday evening in Beaver Dam. The Cardinals will advance to play Manitowoc Lincoln, who knocked off Whitewater in the semis before upsetting Oshkosh West on the Wildcats' home floor.
In the other D1 semifinal, McFarland held off Mount Horeb, 3-1, before cruising to a sweep over Edgerton in the final at Kettle Moraine. The Spartans will battle top-seeded Appleton North, which swept Green Bay Preble and FVA rival Kimberly Tuesday in Clintonville.
Saint Mary's Springs claimed a berth in the State semis with a sweep of Campbellsport and a gritty four-set win over Sevastopol at Chilton. The Ledgers will play the Castle Guards of Washburn, who breezed through Sectional rounds Chequamegon and Algoma at Crandon.
Brodhead will claim the top seed in the Division 2 field following a sweep of Columbus and a riveting five-set win over No. 1 Laconia in Waupun. The Cardinals will take on Scenic Bluffs champion Royall, who handled Belleville and SBC foe Cashton--both in four sets--in La Crosse.
