Macks take over D4 No. 1 in final poll of 2022

McDonell Central joins Oconomowoc, Xavier, and Howards Grove in respective top spots in the final WVCA Coaches Poll of 2022.

There was zero movement in the top 10 in Division 1, with Oconomowoc, Divine Savior Holy Angels, Appleton North, Hamilton, and Burlington holding strong at their positions in top five.

In what became a two-team race down the stretch, Xavier held on to No. 1 in Division 2 in the final poll, edging out No. 2 Sauk Prairie. Luxemburg-Casco remained No. 3, while Kewaskum knocked off Kettle Moraine Lutheran in both teams' conference finales last week to climb into the No. 4 spot ahead of Fox Valley Lutheran.

Howards Grove ran the table in the Division 3 polls all year, holding a distant lead over No. 2 Saint Croix Falls and No. 3 Randolph. No. 4 Lake Country Lutheran flipped spots with Brodhead to round out the top five in the final poll.

The biggest shakeup of the week undoubtedly happened in Division 4, which featured a Cloverbelt Crossover clash between McDonell Central and Columbus Catholic. Thanks to an emphatic sweep, McDonell takes over the No. 1 spot ahead of the Dons in the final poll of 2022. While Athens slipped to No. 3, Mercer rose to no. 4 ahead of No. 5 Monticello, setting up what could be a pair of top-four matchups in next week's WIAA Sectional rounds.
