GREEN BAY, Wis. – Lake Country Lutheran and head coach Janet Bahr overcame an opening set loss to fly past Regis 23-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-19 for the WIAA Division 3 State Championship Saturday at the Resch Center.
Bahr claimed her second state trophy at the helm of Lake Country Lutheran, taking home the silver ball in 2015.
Lake Country Lutheran (45-5) nearly doubled the Ramblers in total kills, led by senior Brooke Andersen’s match-high 26. Andersen, also named to the WVCA All-State First Team, hit a blistering .451 overall and added five of the team’s 14 service aces. Junior Jennifer O’Keefe added 18 kills on stellar .433 hitting and senior Jillian Glyzewski anchored the Lightning defense with a match-high 14 digs.
Regis (22-7) had four players record at least five kills, led by senior Sam Bergum’s eight. The Ramblers outblocked Lake Country, 8-2, led by junior Taryn Karlstad’s match-high five.
The Lightning knocked out Waterloo and head coach Nicole Bakalars in an all-out war of a semifinal matchup, 25-11, 22-25, 19-25, 25-22, 16-14. The Lightning staved off three match points in the final set and used a 5-point run to steal the victory from the Pirates. Regis overcame an 0-2 deficit to knock off Stratford in another five-set semifinal thriller, 23-25, 15-25, 25-14, 25-20, 19-17.
