Neenah, Catholic Memorial, Stratford, Clayton earn top rankings

Not too many changes in the Labor Day weekend edition of the WVCA Coaches Poll, as a handful of teams took the holiday break off before resuming classes Tuesday morning.

Neenah remained the top vote-getter in Division 1, narrowly holding off Arrowhead, which won the Muskego Invitational Saturday. Oconomowoc held at No. 3, while Burlington and River Falls each moved up one spot into the top five.

Catholic Memorial overtook the No. 1 spot in Division 2, as Week 1 No. 1 East Troy was idle, dropping the Trojans to No. 2 in the Week 2 poll. Kettle Moraine Lutheran and undefeated Little Chute held steady in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively, while early-season surprise Wisconsin Lutheran leapt into its first top five ranking in several years.

At a commanding 16-0, Stratford remained the unanimous top team in Division 3. Aquinas and Waterloo jumped into the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively, as Lake Country Lutheran’s brutal preseason schedule dropped its season mark to 6-5 overall. Fall Creek won all six contests last week to rise from the Honorable Mention ranks to No. 5 this week.

Clayton and Newman Catholic held strong in the top two spots in the Week 2 poll, while McDonell Central rose to No. 3 this week. The Macks overtook both River Ridge and Randolph, who remained in the top five, but each dropped one position.
