Some tournaments seem to have a huge bearing on state rankings, and this past weekend’s Lynn LaPorte Sprawl in West Bend did just that. Divine Savior Holy Angels take over the top spot in Division 1 for the first time this season, after the Dashers’ 6-1 mark and second-place finish. River Falls swept some elite Minnesota competition this past weekend at its own Border Battle tournament, reclaiming the No. 2 spot for the second straight week. Arrowhead, who also managed a 6-1 overall mark at the Sprawl, fell into the bottom half of the Sprawl due to tiebreakers, and dropped to No. 3 in the Coaches Poll this week. Dark horse Watertown, which surprised many to claim its first Sprawl title since 2006, surged up the poll at No. 4 this week, while always-steady Burlington rounds out the top five.

Catholic Memorial took home the Bronze Bracket championship at the Sprawl this past weekend and remains the team to beat in Division 2. Little Chute continues to defend its undefeated season at 25-0, and assumes the No. 2 spot again in Week 5. East Troy, which finished in Silver at the Sprawl, holds strong at No. 3. Wisconsin Lutheran continues its climb up the rankings, overtaking Kettle Moraine Lutheran for the No. 4 spot. The Chargers return at No. 5 this week.

Stratford swept longtime Marawood Conference champ Newman Catholic this past week, remaining unblemished at an impressive 32-0 to remain atop the Division 3 rankings. Aquinas and Lake Country Lutheran continue to mow through their respective schedules as well, holding strong at No. 2 and No. 3. Waterloo also held true at No. 4 this week, while Living Word Lutheran climbs to No. 5 in Week 5—its highest ranking of the year.

Clayton suffered a minor hiccup to a Minnesota opponent in River Falls’ Border Battle this past weekend, but still remains the unanimous top ranked team in Division 4. Newman Catholic, River Ridge, Randolph and Hilbert all remained in the top five, in order, as not many of the small schools participated in big tournaments around the state.
